Well, someone’s got to say it I suppose and as I sit here in Brazil, with the prospect of returning to the UK later today after a long few months on the road here, Canada and Zimbabwe, thoughts are slowly turning towards the festive season and Christmas of course!
Ok, so you’re probably already fed up with – what I imagine – are the shops festooning themselves in cheap tacky decorations, shipped in en masse from China, whilst Slade begins to threaten the airwaves with it’s anthemic festive hit. To be honest, I’ve not missed the build-up that has probably took an increasing hold in the last two months! However, like it or hate it, Christmas does at least remind us of one important message: giving is better than receiving.
So, I thought I’d take this chance to flag up a couple of notable events in the next five weeks or so that will give all of you the chance to demonstrate that the sentiment is alive and well!
A Wild Life, 2nd December, London
Coming a few weeks later will be, what I hope!, an entertaining evening packed with anecdotes, stories, laughs and, well maybe, a few tears, as I bring “A Wild Life” to northwest London on the 2nd December. Maximum capacity at the venue is 280, and at just £10 per ticket (which includes free canapes on arrival and in the break). Think of this as a fast-paced evening at the theatre…with plenty of chances to “ooh” and “ahh” as well get lost in the magic that the natural world provides. If you are keen on wildlife; if you are excited about finding out when to run and when to hide; if you just want a few laughs and a great night out – all for a good cause – then come along and bring a friend!
All proceeds on the night will go to DSWF and there will be the chance to buy tickets to win a signed limited edition of “Audience with the King”. Hosted generously by the joint efforts of Pinner and Hemel Hempstead camera clubs, this is an evening for ALL the family…and not just the photographer in your midst!
Although it’s a Monday, and although it may be a drive for some of you, why not come along and kick-off the holiday season with friends and family and enjoy a real night at the theatre.
Doors will open at 19:15 with the show starting at 19:45. Carriages should be expected 21:45.
A WILD LIFE takes place at:
Fairfield Church, (Main Hall), Windsor Close, Northwood Hills, HA6 1PD

Eternity at The Dorchester Hotel
One of the fastest selling limited editions of the last few years, “Eternity” has been one of my favourite elephant images and I am delighted to be donating number 9 of the series of 10 (leaving just one available to order) to the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation to be included in the silent auction at this year’s charity dinner at the Dorchester Hotel, London on the 15th of November.
Measuring 60 inches wide by 24 high and produced using the chromaluxe process at Genesis Imaging, the high gloss, super-durable piece of art possesses a sub-frame on the rear that allows it to be hung “off” the wall, bringing it even more into your living space. What’s more, the incredible finish that chromaluxe provides means that it is akin to having a piece of high quality glass in your inside or outside space (yes…this process permits images to be positioned in all weathers too) but with the lightness of aluminium and none of the complications that glass or similar would provide.
To bid for the piece, contact DSWF directly…or better still, treat yourself to a fantastic night out at one of London’s top hotels and attend the dinner itself. If you would like to secure the last in the series (no.10 of 10), please also drop me a line.
