Into the Valley…a Zambian adventure

Into the Valley…a Zambian adventure

Zambia, or Zambiaahhhhhhh….. as I have always referred to it, is arguably my favourite destination across all of Southern Africa. The people, the landscapes, the emptiness and remoteness of so much of the country make for a fantastic experience in their own right, and when you add in the teeming wildlife then you have one of the continent’s leading safari destinations. And yet, Zambia remains a country that does not feature heavily on the standard itineraries offered by so many companies. For me, the wildlife viewing and photography in this beautiful place have always exceeded my requirements, and I have spent many happy years photographing in this incredible country.

Our trip will incorporate a 3 night stay at the fantastic Mfuwe Lodge and 5 nights at the remote Chamilandu bushcamp in an area where we will have exclusive access to some outstanding game viewing. The bushcamp is situated in the remote southern section of the park, far away from other lodges, and will give you a complete immersion into the ways and pace of the African bush. If you have never stayed in a remote bushcamp, then you are in for a very special treat indeed. From here, we will conduct game viewing by vehicle during the day and night, and also on foot (daylight only obviously!) This is where Zambia really comes into its own; there is nothing more exciting than photographing and watching wildlife whilst sharing the same piece of soil as them. It is a timeless experience and one that truly puts perspective on our place in the global scheme of things. Of course, we will always be accompanied by experienced armed guides who will be imparting their incredible knowledge and tracking skills to the group, getting us into some exciting encounters…and always ensuring we’re kept safe! To feel Africa beneath your feet connects it directly to your soul (no pun intended!), and for many, a stay at one of these remote bushcamps can be a life-changing experience.

As with all my trips, I will be limiting the number to six guests…and not wedging in as many as possible! This means that you have plenty of space in the vehicle as we have three rows of three seats each. As such there is an empty seat on each row…giving you the chance to swing those binoculars and lenses around without fear of colliding with someone else! With a full group of 6, we will have the bushcamp all to ourselves also, making for an even more exclusive experience. This is the Africa you’ve dreamed of, and a far cry from the over-worked, over-run destinations that other parts of the continent will offer. I will also be on hand throughout the trip to make sure you get as much, or as little, guidance as you need with the camera, and to help ensure you capture some very special memories.

In terms of wildlife, then check out the video on Facebook, as this will give you a good idea of what we can expect to see. Leopards an
d lions abound in the valley, along with the greatest concentrations of hippos and crocodiles on the planet, countless elephant and other herbivores and a cast of thousands when it comes to the smaller mammals. For bird enthusiasts, the avian life in South Luangwa is truly spectacular, from multi-coloured bee eaters to swooping fish eagles….and all things in between!

This is also an easy trip to extend if you so wish, and we can provide advice and help on perhaps visiting other areas in Zambia, the Victoria Falls or further afield in Botswana, South Africa, Namibia or Zimbabwe.

With just six spaces, this trip will fill extremely quickly.
