Now, I also know that some of you want to know what other possibilities are looming on the horizon in 2027 that are perhaps not yet fully finished. Indeed, some have been asking about 2028…and as much as possible I am currently lining things up there too.
What I will list here, therefore, are some of the “new” things I’m working on at present that fit in with some of the work I’m doing. That means, sadly for you guys, there’s a reasonable chance that I am going to be on one or more of these trips and they will fall under the “On Location” heading. If they do, I’ll ping out the invites.
So, if any of the following are of interest, then let me know and I’ll put your names on the reserve list. All the details for these trips are going to be available by January at the latest – but I wanted to at least let you know what’s going on behind the scenes 🙂
The Mababe Depression
Doesn’t sound exciting does it? hahaha in fact it sounds downright miserable. However, this epic part of Botswana is home to some of the largest herds of buffalo and their attendant predators. Likely to be in October 2027, (or possibly September).
In search of Gobi
The Gobi bear is the rarest bear on the planet, with perhaps 50-60 individuals. It roams the high plains of a completely restricted part of Mongolia, where bactrian camels and other iconic high plateau wildlife are to be found. Access to this area is off limits except for documentary filming and professional photography…so, as a result, because I’m almost certainly going to be going to work, I will be able to take along a small group with me. September 2027.
Spots and blotches
The snow leopards of Ladakh are very popular, and we love that region, but I will be exploring some territory in Mongolia in 2027 and 2028 with the aim of securing some closer encounters than normally obtained. This part of Mongolia can be a tough environment but it is an option for those wanting to try their hand at some remote leopard locating. We will also be looking for other species too of course, with Pallas cats one of the desirables. However, it will be the snow leopards we focus on. Likely to be February 2027 and 2028.
Voyage into the Congo Basin
Ok, so this is one that is very exciting. I am going to charter a boat that can sleep/accommodate up to 28 people, but restrict it to just 16 of you, and take you up the mighty Congo and Sangha rivers. This will enable you to experience some of the remotest country in Africa in comfort as we will sleep on the boat, and at times in camps along the rivers. Our targets will be lowland gorillas in the Central African Republic; Bonobos in the DRC (don’t worry – in a very safe part of the country); and visits to the legendary Dzangha Bai where 150-250 forest elephants (and Bongo if we’re lucky) will visit on a daily basis. We will also have the possibility of a stop in the Congo Republic too, to visit one of the famous bais there too. This is truly an epic, 15 day adventure (approximately), and you will have plenty of space on the boat as we will just use around 60% of its capacity and yet have it all to ourselves. Likely departure will be May 2028.
